I make sure that where ever I am trying to take a nap is free from light. I mean there is always going to be some light coming from somewhere....but anyway...I also try to not force myself to think about napping. Where are you most comfortable in your home? Maybe its in a lay-z-boy or curled up on the couch. I sometimes also plug in my MP3 player and have a playlist with only relaxing songs and whatnot. That seems to work. Make sure to put it on the lowest volume setting so its more of background noise.
