Sinus infection but confused about blood? in phlegm/mucus..?

It is hard to explain this so Ill try. When you suck in air from your nose to get stuff (I think phlegm or mucus.. im not sure) out of your throat it comes out like a crescent moon and red in color. Does anyone know what this is or whats happening. Thanks in advance.
